Wow! Matt has updated our website and did a great job! Hopefully we will be much better about updating our website and blogging a little more.

We moved back last fall into a quiet subdivision just north of Chattanooga. It is great! We have a large backyard that the kids can play and run around in. We love it hear. It is a little bit of a drive into work and church but well worth it.

In January, Matt's position with the company he had been with for almost 10 years was eliminated and he spent over 5 months looking for work. Thankfully, in June he got a job with a company and is able to work from home now. This was a short term contract that will be up at the end of August but we are praying that it becomes more permanent within the next couple of weeks. Working from home has been very helpful this summer with Caleb being home.

I am still working and will be there four years at the end of this month. I enjoy my job and am thankful that God has blessed me with this job. It does get a little lonely driving into work by myself, but it gives me quiet time and a lot of time to pray. :)

Caleb starts school tomorrow (I don't think he is all that excited about it). He will be in 5th grade and he is starting a new school since we have moved into a new school zone. We met his teachers last week and I think they are going to be great! He enjoyed spending some time with his Papaw this summer riding his new 4 Wheeler thanks to his Papaw Albert. He was also able to go spend some time with friends and go swimming. In June I took him tubing for the first time and he loved it! He actually ran off and left me. LOL

We are trying to get Nathan into pre-k with the county here but we have to take him back for another evaluation and wait on them to make a decision. We are praying that they approve him to start pre-k so he can be ready for school next year. On Friday we took him for a hearing test and found out that he has mild high frequency hearing loss. We knew this was a possibility when he was a baby because that was one of the risk from a chemo drug he was given. It didn't make it any easier to hear though. Thankfully this will not impact his day to day conversations. We just have to go back every 3 months to have him monitored and to make sure that it doesn't get worse.

Anna is growing and doesn't act like a 2.5 year old at all. She is so mature for her age and doesn't have any problems keeping up with her brothers. She loves shoes and clothes. Her daddy thinks I have a lot of shoes... He is going to be in some serious trouble when she gets older (he actually already is). We are hoping to get her potty trained soon! I do worry about her if Nathan does go to pre-k because she has always been with him and she misses him when he isn't at daycare with her.

We are so thankful for all that God has done for us and what He is doing in our lives. We have so much to be thankful for!

I pray that each person reading this is doing well and may God bless you!

3 years off treatment!!!

Oh what a joyous day it was 3 years ago today!!!  Thanks to our heavenly father Nathan was cancer free and receiving his last dose of chemo.

We were finishing up a 10 day hospital stay after Nathan went into septic shock on the 4th of July that year from an infection that was unidentified.  On that 4th of July, Nathan woke up running a really high fever, in the 102 range.  When you have a child with cancer anything over 100.4 means you are going to go to the hospital for at least 48 hours while cultures are ran.  Since it was the 4th of July the doctor on call was trying to let us stay home since we had spent every other holiday since January in the hospital including Caleb's birthday and my birthday.  Later that day his fever got up to 103.4 so the doctor said that we needed to bring him in.  Once we got to the hospital they started IV antibiotics (in his central line).  Within minutes of that antibiotic being released into his system, he became lifeless and his color began to change.  We had an awesome nurse that day that noticed it and acted immediately!  We were in the room with about 5 doctors, 10 nurses and a respiratory therapist.  They were all working on my baby boy while I sat holding him.  I am so thankful that God placed our favorite Nurse Practitioner right across the street at the Ronald McDonald House that day.  She was up there within 10 minutes just to support me.  God's hand was on my baby that day and put the right nurses and doctors in our path and I am so thankful for that.

Nathan then spent 2 days in the PICU and we were so blessed to have our favorite Nurse Practitioner (who works weekends in the PICU) take care of Nathan both Saturday and Sunday while he was in the PICU.  My poor baby was not himself for almost two weeks after that incident, but I am so thankful that he soon became his happy, bubbly personality again.

Three years later Nathan's personality continues to grow, but what a sweet personality he has.  Right now I am watching him play on the couch with his sister and listening to them laugh and play so sweetly together.  He is so loving and cuddly.  I know that his life has been touched by God!

Thanks for following Nathan's story and may God bless each of you!

Happy 4th of July and more

Sorry for taking so long to post something again.  It has been a busy few weeks for our family.

We had a great 4th of July weekend with family and friends.  Sunday we spent the evening at Bree's house (a family friend).  We swam and watched fireworks with my dad, step-mom, Bree and her family.  What a great time the kids had!  Anna is like a little fish!  She loves the water and isn't afraid of it at all.  With a full float in her swimsuit and then arm floaties on she is almost unstoppable.  It took Nathan a little while longer to warm up to the water, but once he got warmed up he loved it too.  We missed Caleb but he was off for a week in Atlanta with his dad going to all kinds of fun attractions.  We didn't get home until 11:30.  This Mama is too old to be out that late now.  LOL  Monday we went to my dad's for a cookout.  My sisters, Amy & Amber were there.  My dad brought my grandfather home from the nursing home for the afternoon.  It is always great to have him come home for a little while.  We had hamburgers and hotdogs for dinner and LOTS and LOTS of dessert.  We ended up leaving after a few hours because Anna & Nathan both severely needed naps.

I actually look Tuesday off since the kids daycare was closed.  My dad & I took the kids to the Creative Discovery Museum.  They had a blast!  Anna's favorite part was the water and Nathan's favorite was the Bob the Builder exhibit.  I got some awesome pictures of them there.  :)

Nathan had to have an EKG and Echocardiogram on Thursday.  He hated that!  Matt took him and it took him and several nurses to hold him down and distract him so they could do them.  This is something that he has to do every year because of one of the chemotherapy drugs that he got, Doxorubicin.  They didn't tell us anything there, but last year when we were there they told us that everything was fine and he didn't need to come back to be checked until he was 5.  However, due to the protocol for his treatment we have to go each year.
Friday Caleb went to the an Allergist to see what he was allergic too and what we need to do about it.  He is allergic to common things, dust, tree pollen, dust mites and roaches.  I had never heard of a roach allergy, but I looked it up online and it's real.  The Allergist put him on a daily nasal spray and suggested that we do allergy shots for him.  We will probably start those at the end of the summer.

Have a great week!

Great Weekend

Wow, what a great but busy weekend we had even with all of the storms and rain!  Friday we went to pick up Caleb during a storm and the pouring rain.  His brother and sister were so happy to see him and have him home.  As were Matt & I.

Saturday we took the boys to see the new Cars 2 movie.  We got a sitter for Anna so we could spend some time with the boys and enjoy the movie as well.  We went to an early showing (10:15) so the theater wouldn't be so busy.  We were actually the first ones in there so got to pick the seats that we wanted.  We chose the seats in the very back so if Nathan wanted to stand up he wouldn't bother anyone.  We then went and bought popcorn for the kids.  Yes, we bought them popcorn at 10 am.  :)  The movie wss awesome and just as good as the 1st one, in my opinion.  Then we took all the kids to lunch at Zaxby's.  After Nathan's nap we went swimming with some friends from church.  All in all a great day with the family!

Sunday was super busy as well!  We had an awesome church service this morning.  After church the little ones took a nap so Matt and I made homemade guacamole and bean dip.  Once the kids got up from their nap the boys and I went to visit my grandfather.  We had a great visit with him!  Caleb and Nathan loved on him and played with him.  I think the three of them really enjoyed it.  It was great to visit with him.  My grandfather was always a special person to me. He loved me and would have done anything for me!  I have lots of memories with my grandfather all through my childhood.  He also loves my kids and thinks the world of them.  After visiting with my grandfather we ran into Wal-Mart.  Of course as soon as we got inside the store it started POURING!  It poured forever, so we ended up having to run out of the store in the pouring rain.  It rained almost our entire way home.

What a great weekend we had.  Here is to hoping that this work week is awesome too!
